Event information

As you will have seen from this week's press reports the world of Contemporary Art appears to be 'recession-proof', with record prices being paid at Sothebys and Christies for Warhol, Bacon, Hockney and Freud.

The Art Group is designed as a series of introductory evenings on how to begin and build your art collection. You can attend just one evening in your search for the Warhols of tomorrow within the exciting new independent galleries springing up all over London.

In September we host three single introductory evenings at Riflemaker in Soho. Singled out by the Times, Guardian and Time Out as a major cultural force on London's contemporary art scene, Riflemaker represents and exhibits such artists as Gavin Turk, Marta Marce, Francesca Lowe and the writers William Burroughs and Alasdair Gray. Set in the west end's oldest building (c.1712) an ex-gunmakers shop in the heart of Soho, the directors of the gallery will introduce us to its roster of young new artists, make recommendations about how to begin collecting whilst explaining the process from the artist's studio to the auction house. Works by young, emerging artists, painters, photographers and filmakers will be available in the £1,000 - £100,000 price range with an autoamatic 10% discount being offered to Art Group members. In October we will also pay special attention to the Frieze and Zoo Art Fairs with a combined weekend visit and invitations to private and VIP views. For much more detail on Riflemaker go to www.riflemaker.org

The talk starts at 7pm
